Honolulu Diamond Head Volcano hike – Lēʻahi

Blog and VLog – Ankanwildandcrazy said lets go see that volcano – just visit not climb it… guess what happened we started and finished climbing it – but in hindsight this was a great adventure – we are total newbies when it comes to hiking and I was even wearing flip-flops and a backpack with unnecessary things for a hill climb – because we did say that we shouldn´t climb it.

Hike starts
So the journey begins this is inside the volcano and start of the hike

First 5-10 minutes is not a dealbreaker – it´s slightly upwards and a fairly good walk then it starts to be more rocky and lean upwards more until you come to the first stairway – I don´t know why but this was the one that crammed the juice out of me – a total powerdrainer so we took a break and then powered on – It took something like 40 minutes and some change to get to the top but the view was totally worth it. There are toilets a small snackshop and you can refill your water for free before you go.

Some things to think about that we missed – we had a too low energy breakfast so I actually got a bit dizzy at the top also maybe for the little thinner air – our tip is to take some snacks with you to top up your energy – also bring fluids to drink especially if you are doing this mid day as we did because the heat and the sun is no joke.
